Regency Road 2 Pym Street (R2P) – Minor Water Main

Team Civil was engaged by McConnell Dowell as part of the Regency Road to Pym Street early works in relocating the DN150/DN200 water mains on behalf of SA Water. Prior to mobilising to site Team Civil was responsible for the induction of over 50 personnel to site, 8 different subcontractors, and submission of documents to McConnell Dowell for induction of their respective plant & equipment to site. Works was conducted using two works crews, the day works crew moved materials to/from site while the night work crews installed the materials in the road alignment in accordance with the supplied drawings.

Scope of works performed:

The works associated with R2P works included the following, but not limited to:

  • Development and implementation of a range of plans including project, commissioning, and link-up plans.
  • Management of multiple subcontractors, inductions to site and their work packages.
  • Management of contaminated waste in accordance to SA EPA requirements.
  • Support for design changes, as there were several clashes between existing services detected in the issue for construction drawings.
  • Team Civil provided specialised input to avoid these clashes to ensure the constructed pipelines met the design requirements.
  • Implementation of traffic management ensuring traffic flows on a multi lane DIT road and side streets were not impacted by the works.
  • Decommissioning of existing pipelines (water mains).
  • Removal of non-friable asbestos pipe during the link-up between new pipe and existing pipe (asbestos pipe).
  • Maintaining water main capacity (for fire services) to residences/businesses during the construction of new water mains.
  • Open excavation trenching up to depths of 3.5m with an assembly of vertical shoring to enable installation of new water mains.
  • Installation of new fire plugs, DIT street boxes, concrete thrust blocks and numerous valve sets.
  • Commissioning of water mains, as they were progressively completed.
  • Restoration of road pavement (including compaction testing & asphalt works) on competition of construction night works.
  • Reestablishment of line marking, signs, road furniture and ITS.
  • Reporting of all safety & environmental statistics to R2P at the end of the month.
  • Completed As-Constructed drawings, materials data report (in 3 separate sections), construction and network verification quality outputs, submitted to R2P within a week of completing the construction works.
