South Para Culvert Crossing

As part of the Opening Up Reservoirs scheme SA Water engaged Team Civil to provide design input and construct a culvert crossing and hiking trail to offer further access within South Para Reservoir for hikers to experience.

Scope of works performed:

Scope of works performed at South Para Reservoir were as follows:

  • Mobilise to site and set up temporary facilities.
  • Upgrade access track, storage, and turn-around area, ensuring delivery trucks can reach work zone.
  • Carefully delineate work zone via flagging, in consultation with SA Water representatives.
  • Install sediment and erosion control devices downstream of works.
  • Clear and grub all vegetation strictly within the agreed delineated work zone.
  • Excavate and prepare base at location of new concrete culverts and headwalls including:
    –  Upstream reinforced concrete cut-off wall.
    –  Upstream and downstream rock lined weirs.
    –  Concrete bed, 100mm thick nominally, to culvert invert with randomly placed D350 rock, creating the fishway structure.
    –  Rock armouring of headwalls.
  • Construct rock lined swale from existing DN900 MSCL pipe under fire track to river.
  • Build-up and rock armour sub-base of hiking track either of culverts to underside of hiking track, enabling connection of the two banks of the river by the track.
  • Construct hiking track using cement treated quarry rubble.
  • Manage minor river flows through the works.
  • Remove all flagging, sediment, and erosion control measures from river.
  • Clean up site and remove any temporary facilities.
  • Leave access road and turnaround in place for use by Forestry SA
